More balcony
Monday I went to Skåne with something workrelated, and at Åbergs Trädgård I bought some sweet flowers and three tiny 'smultron', which is wild strawberries. Hope they'll thrive on my balcony.
And oh yes, I do all my gardening in turqouise heels.
Hope you've had a great weekend.

Melancholia
At 00.01 am today I saw Lars von Triers new movie 'Melancholia'.
I got seasick from watching it(!), but other than that, I though it was a good movie. Not amazingly von Trier-esque, but good, beautiful and thoughtprovoking. Definatly a different sort of apocalyptic story - refreshing.
I'm really tired today, but by sheer luck I had to drink coffee for two hours due to something workrelated. Not amazing coffee, but it's kept me going - until now. Yawn! I'm gonna make me some tea, slize up some pineapple and cosy up with a movie that I can fall asleep to. Tomorrow is a national holiday in Denmark - yay! (But still, I have to make an interview at 10.15 am...)
The music in 'Melancholia' is the prelude from Wagners 'Tristan and Isolde'. I don't like opera, but I adore Wagners music when there's no singing. It's so powerful. The way the music is used in the movie is quite hardcore.

A day of celebration
I'm taking a few holidays this week, and the weather has been wonderful. So I had the morning of, which was perfect - I could celebrate the birthdaychild Nina. We had breakfast at our favourite coffeedealer 'Kaffebar'.
The main reason why I've taken some days off, is that tonight is a big night - the night where my operasinging friend Denise debuts from soloist class at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. As you might know, I've made a lot of moviesnippets for tonights show, so I debut as a 'moviedesigner', as Denise insists I'm credited in tonights programme. Interesting. Last night we had general rehearsel, and she looked and sounded sooo amazing.
If you're interested in more about Denise, check out our vlog (in danish, sorry):

Breakfast of pianists
I didn't have time for breakfast this morning, because my evil pianoteacher scheduled a lesson at 12 a.m. - on a sunday?! Oh, the humanity.
It was awesome though. I got too much praise, and I can't take it - I wanna drop everything and focus on the piano... and that's a baaaad idea. I mean, I've been there, and it didn't work.
So I'll continue to be a good little journalist-intern - and I love that - and squeeze in some practicetime and lessons when possible.
So. Drinking my coffee from the mini-french press - lookit! Just enough for two wolfcups. Perfect.
Now I'm going to be practical for a while: throw stuff out, wash my dirty clothes all the while dancing to Sufjan Stevens, and then go find some sun with my friend Lene - shouldn't be that hard on this beautiful day.
Hope you've had a great weekend.
Love,
Ida

Workpotato
Easter is fast coming up, in T minus 10 minutes to be exact (5.p.m is the end of the workday in Denmark - generally speaking). Except - I don't have time for that. I'm working on an article, and I have a delayed videoproject as well.
Work is really fun though, I finished an article yesterday where I interviewed danish chef Kille Enna. She just released a cookbook about potatoes, and when I had to write picturecomments to the dishes we use in the magazine, one of my peers handed me 'The flavour Thesaurus'. It's such a funny book (and good-looking) for all food-afficionados out there. With urban foodlegends and recommendations and such. It made writing so much fun - and Kille herself is such a sweetheart and a maverick in the kitchen - why not use potatoes in pastries and other desserts? Among many others things.
If I find the time these next days, I'm dying to make her gnocchi or potatopancakes with cucumbersalad. Yum yum.
(Exhausted, but happy) Love,
Ida

7:26 a.m.
I was up early today. The city was extremely silent. A bit unnerving, as if everybody had disappeared from the face of the earth.
It was a beautiful, slightly misty morning.
I'm going to Svendborg, a very picturesque (so I'm told) place on Funen, for an interview... yes, it's the weekends, and I'm working. I'm glad easter is coming up - I plan to catch up on some sleep.

The weekend...
...was warm and sunny - and I stayed indoors, working. But the balconydoors were open. I could hear the birds chirping. That's something.

Old love revisited
I absolutely do not have time for it - but I couldn't help myself!
Yesterday I had my first pianolesson in 3 years. It felt soooo good. I contacted my old teacher (who I last had a lesson with 7 years ago), and it felt just like old times, and was fun and exciting. I can't wait to become a better pianist again.
So even less time to blog - but my love for the piano and the need to express myself through classical is greater than my love of blogging. But I'll have time for both. Just don't have that much to blog about these days, since all my time is spent working.
My pianoteacher and I had a laugh, especially when he sincerely, but teasing at the same time, said I should play Chopins Revolutionary Etude...
It's easier than it sounds. But then again, it sounds really difficult. But I'm all in.
Love,
Ida

Working dinner
I'm so busy these days. There's no time for blogging, but I'll take 5 minutes just now to say 'I'm busy', while I wolf down this salad.
Love,
Ida
P.s. It was actually a pretty good salad I tossed together, so I'll share it:
Bulgur, boiled with chickenstock for flavour
Red pepper
Fennel
Lamb's lettuce
Shallots
Pomegranatseeds
Roasted sunflowerseeds
And I like vinagrette, so I poured that over.
Yum!

What's underneath...
They've stripped off some signs on a building at Nørrebrogade. I love this. Old signs and letterings become visible. These say damekonfektion and cigarer, which translates 'ready-to-wear for women' and 'cigars'. Konfektion is a very oldfashioned word, and cigars - I mean, who smokes those nowadays? People smoke cigarettes, not cigars. Those words are artefacts.
I wish I had a timemachine, so I could travel back and see how it used to be in those days. Just for a short visit.
Love,
Ida

Below the radar
I've been sick all weekend, and I was still sick when I apruptly woke up this morning - I'd overslept! For even if I am sick, I had my first work-related interview today, and I didn't wanna cancel it, when there was a photographer and a soon-to-be deadline involved.
So I washed my face, brushed my teeth, pulled on a dress and hailed a cab and showed up at work only 10 minutes late.
At 1 p.m. the photographer picked me up, and we went to do the interview.
And I learned my first valuable lesson:
MakeSureThereIsADogPresentForPhotoshootsWhenYou'reWritingForADogMagazine.
I just thought it was a given...
My editor had told me to go straight back to bed as soon as the interview was over (I think it went fine... I'm not sure, since my brain has been replaced with mugus. But I think it was ok), and when I wrote her an email about my photo-blooper, she was totally cool about it. And then teased me a little.
I really like her.
But still, I needed a pick-me-up. So I looked at the picture, that sweet Linda from Simpel Dagbog sent me the day before I started work. It makes me happy - and hopeful.

Now I've put it as wallpaper on my computer.

Kliché
Friday, and I had to call in sick at my brandnew job. Isn't it such a kliche?
I feel awful - both healthwise and regarding missed work and new colleagues.
The weekend will hopefully see me feeling better, so I'm fit for a new week monday, where I have my first workrelated interview.
I've hardly read any blogs all week. And I've just been to sick to catch up today. Maybe tomorrow.

Work
Besides learning the trade of journalism, they have an amazing coffeemaker at my new workplace, so on top of everything I'm slowly becoming an amateur barista.
This latte isn't perfect, but give me a few days or weeks and I'll produce some flowers, hearts and whatnot in the milkfoam.
My workcomputer. Stationary. PC. But it feels grownup...
After work I went to a friends house. She made hot cocoa with chili and cinnamon, and topped it off with whipped cream and marshmellows imported home from the states. Decadent and delicious. We had dinner and a mutual friend came over for coffee.
Don't know why I have all this energy. I'm sooooo tired now that I'm home - but probably won't be ably to sleep anyways.
I feel bad about neglectings things - like this blog. And facebook. Silly me.

Ida

The way I am
I love this drawing. It totally encompasses the romantic, hopefull spirit in me.
'Everything that could possibly happen'. Isn't that beautiful?
I'm sorry, but I really can't remember where I found this - I've snatched it from some blog without writing credits down. I have a sneak suspesion that it's from Where the Lovely Things Are; but I'm not 100...
I'm really tired today and have hardly read any of the blogs I use to follow. First day of work - it was fine, my colleagues were very sweet and funny and smiling.
I can't wait to when it's normal...

Ida

2011 so far looks...
...pretty much like 2010. But in less than one month all that changes. When I start my internship. I'm going to be one busy girl. Can't wait!
But there is a new and different thing in these pictures.
My new moomin-cup.
And the hyacinths are new.
I can't wait for spring to come.

Gentlemen Prefer Operasingers
I've been working on a videoproject with and about my friend who is an operasinger.
And I finally launched the blog yesterday! Yaaaay.
Warning: It's in danish, and there's only one video on there - but hopefully I'll get a lot of videos on it during January... I have A LOT of footage.
It's something we do out of love for our field of work - we're our own employers. And even though I'm not that fond of opera, I'm passionate aboutall most music, and so far I've learned a lot and am moving towards liking opera more and more.
But check it out: Gentlemen Prefer Operasingers
And yeah, I find it a bit ironic that my personal blog (this), that I write in english, has a danish title, and that my vlog-project, that I write in danish, has an english title... it's all just to confuse you, hihi.
Merry X-mas and love,
Ida

I'm on a road to nowhere
Me and my cold went to Jutland yesterday. I'm still here, working = filming. The cold is feeling better, maybe because I drank vitamin induced lemonade? Yuck.
I started reading some sci-fi novels - my friend and guitarist in SPEkTR lent me the book. I love the cover. It has a very SPEkTR-ish vibe. Did I ever link to my bands Myspace? No. So there.

Freebees!
I love free gifts.
I got the cool, new totebag with the deer, when I was filming a friend. She was giving a taste of the new opera she's appearing in at a theater-conference, and these beauties were lying around as a free treat. Yay.
I got the fruit yesterday at my new "office". The owner just came over - "for extra energy" he said. What a sweetheart. Can't wait to go there again.

Ida

*Sigh*
I'm working on the bands pressmaterial, and alltough I study journalism, I find it really difficult.
Well, I'm eating snackolives, drinking cranberry-lemonade (inspired by Krims Krams blog) and sniffing my hyacinths. The green haycinth-vase used to belong to my great-great-grandmother! I treasure it so much.

Twin Shadow
I LOVE music! Can't live without it. But whenever I explore "new" music, I tend to look to the past, and not the present. Fortunatly I work freelance for danish musicmagazine Soundvenue, and when I have to do interviews for them - usually with foreign, upcoming bands - I get to hear some of what's happening right here, right now.
Twin Shadow is one of those. I really like his music (which isn't always the case with the bands I interview...*gasp*). His album 'Forget' has just been released, it's soul-pop-krautrocky, and I adore his voice. He has a cool sense of style, and this video is hilarious. I love people who don't take themselves too serious.
Hope you enjoy.
Love,
Ida
